HOUSING RECOVERY COULD LEAD TO UNCOVERED PEST PROBLEMS
Nader's Pest Raiders Educates Potential Homebuyers On the
Importance of Obtaining a Pest Inspection from a Licensed Pest
Professional
The housing market is making a comeback. According to the
National Association of REALTORS®, "existing-home sales continued
to recover in the first quarter with gains reported in 49 states
and the District of Columbia." In the south, "existing-home sales
increased 8.5 percent." With the housing market on the rebound,
many prospective homeowners may want to move quickly to get in on a
great deal. However, Nader's Pest Raiders cautions potential buyers
to not overlook a critical component in the process: obtaining a
pest inspection from a licensed pest professional.
"As more and more people begin to look for great deals on a new
home, they need to keep in mind the importance of obtaining a pest
inspection, especially if the property is a foreclosure or
short-sale and hasn't been occupied for a long period of time.
These uninhabited spaces are the perfect dwelling grounds for
termites, wood boring beetles, roaches, ants, rodents and
wildlife," said Nader's Pest Expert, Shay Runion. "No matter the
type of sale, we always encourage new homebuyers to obtain a pest
inspection by a licensed pest professional before making such an
important decision. Not only will it create peace of mind, but can
also potentially save the new homeowner thousands of dollars in
structural repairs."
Termites and other wood destroying organisms, in particular, can
cause serious problems for potential homeowners in the south.
Termites cause $5 billion worth of property damages each year - a
cost rarely covered by homeowner's insurance. A thorough inspection
by a licensed pest professional allows potential homeowners to
uncover any existing infestations, past damage or conditions
conducive to future problems. Upon completion of the inspection,
the pest control company will issue documentation guaranteeing
their work for a period time providing further protection for home
buyers
In addition to wood destroying organisms, cockroaches, ants, house
mice and wildlife such as squirrels and roof rats can pose a threat
to human health and affect the structure of a home. Cockroaches can
cause asthma in children. House mice breed quickly and can bring
other unwanted pests into the home like fleas, ticks, mites and
lice and wildlife infestations can cause serious structural damage
and electrical fires as the chew their way through wires, plastic
and wood to find food and shelter and their waste can transmit
diseases.
